SONG HAYOUNG

PAVILION
June 18  ━ July 18, 2026

We imagine the exhibition space as a temporary structure — walls and roof undecided, built to exist only for a set period. In Song Hayoung's own words, this new body of work "begins from the modularity and temporariness of the pavilion, its layers, and its open structure where inside and outside flow into one another." The artist suggests painting, too, can exist this way. His enduring theme is boundary — not merely a dividing line, but a point of contact where different things meet. The sharp, ordered edges of the city and the fluid, overlapping boundaries of nature are translated on canvas into line, plane, and point. In this new work, color is markedly reduced and the canvas returns to the wall — painting's oldest condition. Yet this simplicity is not empty: the work invites viewing up close, from the side, and again from a distance, shifting continually with the viewer's position and movement. When the exhibition ends, this temporary structure will be dismantled without a trace — but the sense of openness it held will continue on, each in its own way.
