호리아트스페이스는 11월을 맞아 김명주 작가의 《정화된 밤 Transfigured Night》을 개최합니다. 전시 제목은 오스트리아 작곡가 아르놀트 쇤베르크(Arnold Schönberg)의 음악에서 차용된 것입니다.
김명주 작가는 일상적인 재현을 벗어난 감각적 형상의 독창적인 도예작품을 선보여 왔습니다. 올해 5월에는 월간미술이 선정한 ‘아트부산 2023 베스트 부스 5’에 뽑힌 저희 부스의 메인 작가로 참여해, 국립현대미술관 미술은행에 작품이 소장되기도 했습니다.
이번 전시에서는 작가는 본질적으로 인간이라는 ‘존재’가 살면서 겪는 고통, 상실감, 어두운 측면들을 다루면서도, 이를 한없이 고통스럽게 표현하는 것이 아닌 빛으로 나아가면서 정화되어 가는 과정으로 표현합니다.
감각적이고 생명력 넘치는 조각 작품들과 더불어 이를 위한 드로잉들, 그리고 회화 작품들까지 《정화된 밤》에서 만나보시길 바랍니다.
HORI ART SPACE is pleased to present Transfigured Night, a solo exhibition by artist Myungjoo Kim, in November. The exhibition title is borrowed from the musical piece by Austrian composer Arnold Schönberg.
Myungjoo Kim has been known for her original ceramic works that transcend conventional representation, offering sensuous and imaginative forms. In May this year, she was featured as the main artist in our booth at Art Busan 2023, which was selected as one of “5 Best Booths” by Monthly Art Magazine. One of her works was also acquired by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art’s Art Bank.
In this exhibition, the artist addresses the pain, sense of loss, and darker aspects that are inherently part of human existence. However, rather than expressing these themes through anguish, she presents them as a process of purification—moving toward light.
Alongside her sensuous, life-filled ceramic sculptures, the exhibition also includes drawings and paintings that complement her practice. We invite you to experience Transfigured Night and immerse yourself in this journey of transformation.
