체코 현대미술가 얀 칼럽의 한국 첫 개인전에 초대합니다. 호리아트스페이스(대표 김나리)와 레지나갤러리(대표 홍정연)의 협력으로 체코의 현대미술가 얀 칼럽(Jan Kaláb)의 한국 첫 개인전 이 열립니다. 이번 얀 칼럽의 초대전은 지난 3월의 대만 전시에 이은 아시아에서 두 번째 개인전입니다.
얀 칼럽(b.1978)의 청소년기는 동서독 통일을 비롯한 유럽의 정치적 격변기였으며, 몸소 체험한 시대적 변화의 감성을 작품으로 승화시켜 크게 주목받았습니다. 이미 십 대 후반부터 체코에서 볼 수 없었던 그라피티 아티스트(Graffiti artist)로 활동하며 특유의 독창적인 예술세계를 구축해 왔습니다.
전시 제목이 에서도 짐작되듯, 얀 칼럽의 추상회화엔 몽환적인 꿈과 이상향이 담겨 있습니다. 마치 망망대해에서 만난 산호초처럼, 새로운 설렘을 선사하는 신세계로 안내하는 환영의 창을 보는 듯합니다. 너무나 황홀하고 감동 어린 색의 향연에 초대합니다.
You are cordially invited to the first solo exhibition in Korea by Czech contemporary artist Jan Kaláb. Co-hosted by HORI ART SPACE (Ceo Nari Kim) and Regina Gallery (Ceo Jungyeon Hong), this exhibition marks Kaláb’s Korean debut and follows his solo presentation in Taiwan earlier this March—his second in Asia.
Born in 1978, Jan Kaláb came of age during a period of political upheaval in Europe, including the reunification of East and West Germany. His work reflects the emotional undercurrents of these transformative years. From his late teens, Kaláb began making a name for himself as a graffiti artist—introducing a visual language previously unseen in the Czech Republic—and has since built a distinctive and innovative artistic practice.
As the exhibition title suggests, Kaláb’s abstract paintings are infused with dreamlike visions and utopian ideals. They evoke the wonder of discovering a coral reef in the middle of an open sea—like windows into a vibrant new world filled with anticipation and awe. We invite you to experience the dazzling, deeply moving symphony of color that defines his work.
