정지아
정지아(b.1999)는 북경 중앙미술학원 중국화과 학사를 졸업하였다. 개인전 ‘Portraits of Emotion’(Gallery ST, 서울, 2024)과 2024년 신진작가 기획전 'Wavy Wave'(호리아트스페이스, 아이프라운지)를 포함하여 ‘4 인의 평론가가 선정한 40 인展’(Gallery ST, 서울, 2024), 중앙회화대전(한국미술관, 서울, 2023), ‘주중한국문화원 한중교류전’(주중한국문화원, 북경, 2022)에 참여했다. ‘아트코리아 청년작가 공모전’ 평론가상(2024), K-ARTIST PRIZE 그랑프리 수상(2023), 중앙회화대전(2023에서 특전을 수상했다. 인물 공필화를 그리는 정지아는 어릴 적부터 사람들의 표정 속에 담긴 희로애락에 흥미를 느끼고 이러한 감정을 일으키는 인간 내면의 사랑, 욕망, 불안 등을 작품의 주제로 다루고 있다. 작가는 사람들의 얼굴에서 순간적으로 지나가는 감정들이나 상황과 반대되는 모순된 감정 표현을 포착하며 그들에게 위로와 사랑의 시선을 보낸다. 화면에 자주 등장하는 꽃, 새와 같은 생명들은 때로는 유한한 삶과 자유로움을, 때로는 막막한 현실을 상징한다. 이 소재들을 통해 사람이 살아가는 동안 아름다운 삶을 영위해 가기를, 삶을 앓고 난 후 우리에게 찾아올 빛을 희망하는 마음을 작품에 담고 있다.
Chung Ziah(b. 1999) holds a Bachelor's degree in Chinese Painting from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. She has held the solo exhibition Portraits of Emotion (Gallery ST, Seoul, 2024) and participated in the 2024 emerging artist exhibition Wavy Wave (Hori Art Space, iPLAUNGE), as well as 40 Artists Selected by 4 Critics (Gallery ST, Seoul, 2024), the JoongAng Painting Grand Prix (Korea Art Museum, Seoul, 2023), and the Korean Cultural Center in China Korea-China Exchange Exhibition (Korean Cultural Center in China, Beijing, 2022). She has received the Critics' Award at the Art Korea Young Artist Competition (2024), the Grand Prix at the K-ARTIST PRIZE (2023), and a special prize at the JoongAng Painting Grand Prix (2023). Chung Jiah works in the tradition of Chinese figure Gongbi painting. From an early age, she has been drawn to the full spectrum of human emotion visible in people's expressions, and takes as her subjects the inner forces — love, desire, and anxiety — that give rise to these feelings. She captures the fleeting emotions that cross people's faces, as well as contradictory expressions that run counter to their circumstances, offering them a gaze of comfort and love. Recurring motifs such as flowers and birds serve at times as symbols of the finite nature of life and the longing for freedom, and at others as reflections of an overwhelming reality. Through these elements, her work carries a wish that people may live beautifully throughout their lives, and a hope for the light that will find us after we have weathered its pain.
